The IBM Austin Center for Advanced Studies proudly held the 4th Annual Austin CAS Summer Conference on August 19th and 20th. Through IBM confidential presentations, twenty-three summer interns presented the results of their work in topics ranging from advanced circuits to software and architecture design to systems performance and more. Time was allotted for questions, which allowed the audience to comment on and better understand the work done. It also gave students the opportunity to hear feedback and benefit from others’ knowledge and experience. Over seventy-five employees from across the IBM Austin campus attended this event that was the capstone of a productive season.

The annual CAS summer program is an exciting extension to a traditional summer internship. Students and faculty who work for IBM under this program are predominantly working on graduate level/advanced research and conducting joint university research sponsored by CAS Partnering Executives during the school year. This combination makes for a powerful summer experience for all. Many of the summer interns find themselves better prepared for their summer task. Their IBM mentors enjoy this exciting, new dimension to their work. At the end of summer, CAS sponsored research faculty welcome back students with valuable, industrial-strength experience that helps them continue their related research back at school. Faculty return with industry insights that strengthen their research. Many CAS interns return to IBM summer after summer to continue growing in their area!
