On Friday, August 12, 2005, The IBM Austin Center for Advanced Studies (Austin CAS) proudly held the 5th Annual Austin CAS Summer Conference. During this full day of talks, 17 Interns presented the results of their summer work in topics ranging from Advanced Circuits to Software and Architecture Design to Systems Performance and more! Most interns are returning graduate school in the next few weeks to conduct joint university research sponsored by our Partnering Executives during the school year.
In addition to research presentations, Austin CAS held a Faculty Award luncheon that announced these new sponsorships -- more than $600,000 in Faculty Awards to fund technology-related research at universities across the country and Europe. Nine Professors from UT Austin, UTEP, TAMU and New Mexico State came to IBM Austin for the award ceremony and were presented their awards by representatives from those sponsoring organizations. The Faculty Awards announced included Professors from our own local Univesity of Texas at Austin: Lizy John, Kathryn McKinley, Stephen Keckler, Randolph Bias, John Boisseau, Warren Smith, Edward Walker, Calvin Lin, Jim Dyer and Peter Stone.
