Austin CAS Conference 2003 February 21, 2003
Summary of Feb. 21, 2003 IBM Austin Center for Advanced Studies 4th Annual Conference
Austin's CAS held a successful 4th Annual Conference which gave University Faculty an opportunity to present to IBM the results of their sponsored research. This -- now international -- conference was attended by 150 and represented approximately $1M of IBM investment in recipients of Faculty Awards and related PhD Fellowships who voluntarily returned to IBM to report their findings and accomplishments. Nineteen-papers presented by University Faculty and their students shared fresh, innovative techniques and cutting-edge results that will directly benefit IBM's research and development efforts in hardware, software, systems technology, and business management. At the conference luncheon Bob Yellin, Vice President of Technology for Tivoli Software, recognized four Faculty Awards recently given to UT-Austin CS Faculty to sponsor new and continuing research, followed by J. Strothers Moore, UT Austin CS Chair's who gave thanks to IBM for the continued research support and friendship. These award recognitions were followed by a keynote speech on IBM's Global Technology Outlook by Michael Rosenfield, Director of the Austin Research Lab.
