Contact: bernard_kerr@us.ibm.com
In June, 2000 Bernard Kerr joined CUE as a Strategic Designer. A native of New Zealand, Bernard holds an MA from the Royal College of Art's (RCA) Computer Related Design program in London. At the RCA Bernard focused on ways to create computer systems that provide rich and engaging experiences in the world of increasingly complex technologies. In line with this philosophy, he designed systems that allowed people to participate in creating and managing the components that make up these systems. For a taste of his work at the RCA, go to http://www.crd.rca.ac.uk/alumni/98-00/bernard/index.html
While studying for his Masters at the RCA, Bernard worked at Interval Research Corporation in Palo Alto. Before that he did an internship as an Interaction Designer at IDEO in London. Bernard also has Bachelors degrees in Building Science and Architecture from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. After graduating with these degrees, he worked on a number of diverse architectural projects, including model making, drafting, building, and set designing. Bernard believes that these skills, combined with his more recent studies and experience in product design, interaction design, information design, digital technologies, and physical computing gives him a broad design perspective. Since coming to Cambridge, he has been working on Reinventing Email, a project that has given him the opportunity to continue to explore some of these areas.
