Collaboration

Casey Dugan is working with the social software group on the Beehive project, an internal social networking site for the enterprise. Casey graduated from MIT with a BS in Computer Science and Engineering, and a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Her thesis, “Google Distance Analysis of the MIT Curriculum,” which she worked on with advisor Hal Abelson, used keyword search results to find connections among MIT courses. Their work led to visualizations of the MIT curriculum, information about the usefulness of professor-provided keywords, and possible reorganizations for MIT departments and schools. She was also part of a group project that led to the construction of an MIT WikiMap.

Casey spent two summers interning with CUE. The first summer she worked with Martin Wattenberg on Link Prediction in Social Networks. During her second internship she explored Business Process Modelling and Activity Analysis in UAM (United Activity Manager) and AE (Activity Explorer) activities. In her spare time, Casey enjoys making things like drawings and paintings. She has also leather-punched her own moccasins. Casey likes to teach kids, and every November she spends a weekend teaching them how to make their own chocolate sculptures at MIT’s SPLASH program.
