IBM Research Announces Recipient of the 2005 Josef Raviv Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship

IBM Research is pleased to announce that Lexing Xie of Columbia University, New York, NY is the recipient of the 2005 Josef Raviv Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship. Ms. Xie's dissertation is entitled "Unsupervised Pattern Discovery of Multimedia Sequences" and is being supervised by Prof. Shih-Fu Chang. She has chosen to spend her postdoctoral year at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in New York, where she will be working on the topic of her choice: multimedia mining and in particular, on the theoretical frameworks being used in multimodal analysis and multimedia information retrieval.

This year, the review committee (senior researchers from the IBM Almaden, Austin, Haifa and Watson labs) received 36 applications from around the world. The high quality of these applications made the selection process a difficult one, and all of the applicants should be congratulated for the exciting research they have done and propose to do. The committee would like to thank all the applicants and the many others who wrote letters of support.
