UNM is involved in three different projects: 1. Port of K42 to Opteron platforms. 2. MPI/Portals support on K42. Due to the research focus of our group we typically provide MPI support by building MPI over a lightweight data movement layer developed with Sandia National Labs called Portals. Portals provides us with the low-level building blocks for message passing as well as the flexibility and infrastructure to ease porting to new OS's and networking technologies. 3. Network Optimizations in K42. Investigation on network optimizations to allow for a High-Performance implemention of MPI to run on K42. This study includes the evaluation of Cache Injection, Splintering, Matching on the NIC, NIC offloading, etc. in the presence of smart Network Interface Controllers.
