I am
at the T.J. Watson Research Center of the IBM Corporation, where I manage
the Mathematical Programming
group, which is in the Optimization Center, which is in the Business Analytics and Mathematical Sciences
Department.
I received my B.S. (1981), M.S. (1984) and Ph.D. (1986) degrees from Cornell University. My dissertation supervisor was Bob Bland of Cornell's Operations Research Department. I spent 1985-1993 on the faculty of Yale University and 1993-2000 on the Mathematics Department faculty of the University of Kentucky, in the Discrete Mathematics Group. I was a research visitor at the Center for Operations Research and Econometrics, Université catholique de Louvain, in Belgium, for the academic years 1991-1992 and 1999-2000, and an Adjunct Professor in the Industrial Engineering and Operations Research Department at Columbia University in 2003. I was an academic visitor at IBM for the summer of 1999, and I joined IBM as a regular employee in the summer of 2000. I was Vice-Chair for Integer Programming of the Optimization Section of INFORMS for 1999-2001 (and Optimization Section Council member for 1999-2003). I was the founding Managing Editor of the journal Discrete Optimization, (2004-2006).
Currently, I am Chair of the Executive Committe of the Mathematical Programming Society, Chair-Elect of the INFORMS Optimization Society, on the editorial board of the journal Discrete Applied Mathematics, an Adjunct Professor at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University (since 2002), a Permanent Member of DIMACS, a Full Member of the COIN-OR Foundation, and an external member of CORC (Computational Optimization Research Center) of Columbia University.
